It seems as though hospitals are increasingly finding themselves in the middle of expensive malpractice suits. In this particular case, a hospital in China is facing a lawsuit for losing two arms and two legs as a result of an operation that was performed on a patient using an AI-powered machine.
While the hospital denies any wrongdoing, the suit has already cost them plenty of money and could continue to do so in the future. Le patient, âgé de 54 ans, avait été admis à l’hôpital en urgence après une chute. Il avait ensuite été transféré dans leservice des maladies infectieuses et pneumonie.
Selon les informations recueillies par l’AFP, le patient aurait reçu des soins inappropriés pendant sa longue hospitalisation. Son lit aurait ainsi été renversé plusieurs fois et il aurait également eu droit à une anesthésie générale inappropriée, ce qui aurait entraîné son décès.
L’hôpital réunionnais a finalement été condamné par la justice à verser aux familles du patient une indemnité de deux millions d’euros.

Le gouvernement demande aux hôpitaux de faire preuve de plus de vigilance
Un malpractice suit a coûté l’hôpital deux bras et deux jambes à un patient. L’homme, âgé de 36 ans, avait été gardé en observation après une intervention chirurgicale pour une tumeur au sein. Selon le journal The Guardian, il s’est échappé du service après une nuit passée sur le lit d’un autre patient. Il aurait ensuite été arrêté par les policiers qui l’ont conduit à l’hôpital où il a été admis en ventre à terre. Il est mort quelques jours plus tard d’une pneumonie contractée suite à cette infection.

Le journal La République du Québec cite une étude canadienne qui montre que les malpractice suits représentent chaque année un coût pour les hôpitaux de deux bras et deux jambes. Selon l’étude, ces dommages ne cesseront probablement pas avant 2020.
